weekend warrior thing again
First, I ought to put in something about motorcycling. I went to my last GoldWing breakfast this morning. I sold the Wing over a year ago, and Val and I are busy with other things. I had several GW patches, so I donated them back to the club. I think they'll become door prizes. Nice folks. A little more into bling than we are. So anyway I got in a short ride this morning, to the restaurant and back.
I need to quit working so hard on Saturdays! Today I cut down, then cut up, a full-sized gum tree. (The kind that makes those nasty spiky monkey balls). I also cut up a trailer full of scrap lumber into firewood, then stacked it, and removed some brush from around the shed. So I'm beat. I treated myself to a dinner of flesh at a local eatery, and Val and Josh tagged along (They ate, too. Val got to not make supper). Val did laundry all day, and Josh, well I'm not sure he did anything. He said he tried to clean his room. Those were his very words.
I'll need to do the long hard labor thing at least another weekend or two: I committed to putting in a new shed next to the old one, and I need to level the ground where it'll be put. Besides the digging and root removal, that little project entails moving a stack of firewood, a short stretch of fence, several tree trunk pieces, and several annuals that aren't in a good place any more. Let's see—I need to de-weed the pasture fence one of these days, and the brush from the gum tree needs to carried out to the back of the property to dry out for a bonfire this summer. And I have another bunch of dirt to dig out from where it will interfere with the shed delivery truck and the construction of the addition. Well, maybe I can rest this fall.
The new book, Shangri-La Diet, arrived! I'll start reading it tonight, I think. There's a picture of the author on the flyleaf. He looks a little sheepish, but he's not fat.
