Poor Val. She went to a big training session up in Rhode Island last week, had a good time, learned a lot, and came back all fired up, gung-ho, and ready to put the pedal to the metal, as it were. Then Monday, some upper-up, who was not a big player at the training, by the way, conducted a phone conference that had the effect of thoroughly demoralizing everyone, in addition to wasting a lot of time. The manager, Val's direct boss, even walked out of the call before it ended. Trooper that she is, Val has been putting in the newly required extra hours all week, getting home well after suppertime, and usually after bed time. She's being a pretty good sport about it.
I am, too, and so are the kids. Especially the kids, since they have to eat my cooking and have me put them to bed. They don't mind—the first night we had pizza for supper. Sausage and vegetable stir fry one night, and last night, my triumph—a turkey! Fifteen pounder, too. Baked potatoes and salad. Val came home long enough to eat and make some gravy. Tonight we had turkey soup, something I have made many times over the years. For some reason the kids go to bed better for me than for Val. Maybe the whip has something to do with it...
Today is Halowe'en, and Val dressed up for work. Here's a picture. It's hard to tell, but the mouth is painted on her chin; the fangs are her lower lip. Pretty good, huh? Apparently some of the folks who saw her today didn't believe she did it herself. I might add that she just said that she doesn't need to be all painted up to be an animal, but that's none of your business. And my cue to end this blog for tonight.
