Progress?

The addition project continues to poke along. I'll see a bunch of work for a day or two, then another hiatus in the activity. Right now we're waiting for the plumber. He's promised for Wednesday the 8th. Last week the electricians ripped out the obsolete wiring in the garage and hooked up the electricity to the sheds again. When the plumber runs the water and propane, I can finally fill in the last trench and we'll be ready for the gravel, to be delivered by someone called a gravel slinger. (I'll let you know if they use a device that throws gravel to the back corners of the site.) One day Val happened to be able to stop by the house during lunch. She wanted me to take her picture with a couple of studs. (yuk yuk.) Today the fellows from the post and beam company (the two guys on the right) showed up to take some measurements. I admire their caution. Here they're comparing the plans with the construction. As it turns out, two of the footers are a bit to one side and need a neighboring stack of blocks to fully support their respective posts. The hole for one of them hasn't been filled in yet, and a worker can lay the extra blocks next to the existing pillar without any problems. The other hole had been backfilled, so I dug out the necessary space. That's been one of my main forms of exercise this year—digging in the dirt. I'd add, "—like a three-year old" but what I've been doing has been Serious Digging. Hnngh. The fellow on the left is Nick, Mario's assistant construction superintendent. I made up that title, but that's his function. Did I ever mention the name of the post and beam company? It's Hugh Lofting Timber Framing. The fellow who runs the show is the grandson of the author of the Dr. Dolittle books. Here's a pic of their truck: And that's all for today. The next post will contain something completely different.
