We're not taking a break from the addition, but I want to talk about something else for a bit. In my spare time I've been working on my web site, and I invite you to check it out: writing-rag.com. If you go now, you'll see what must be the twentieth revision, and it's only about 400 words. Since it's about good writing, I suppose it makes sense that I'd be scrupulous about how I wrote it. I still think it could use work, but I'm fairly happy with it. At least I can stand to read it. I hope that, if you read the site, your reaction will be that it didn't look all that hard to write. It won't feel strained or ackward, the flow is reasonable, you understand my points, and you even enjoyed it. I'm eager to learn what you think. I'm not looking for praise, I want to make it good, and the test of good writing is the reader's reaction. So tell me how you reacted to it.
Next task: get the word out so people who don't know me see the site. One thing that'll help is if you mention (put the address of) the site on your facebook or myspace page. Write a review. Plug me! I just did a google on "writing rag," and it came up first out of 163 hits. The sample text that appears is an early revision, though.
Task three: write something worth selling. Right now I'm giving everything away. I could use some ideas. What would you like to know about writing well? What's your biggest problem with writing (yours or anyone else's)? Drop me a line at curmudgeon at writing-rag.com to tell me.
