This is a trio of job-hunting stories.
I heard from a head hunter before my contract with Bank of America ended, that I was a perfect match for a local biggish company, WL Gore (makers of gor-tex). It was due to start mid Feb. Well, it's been delayed twice, and today I got an email that said their project "has been postponed." Sounds like an obit to me.
The power utility in New Jersey is opening a new atomic power plant across the river. Not too bad a commute, a good rate, and I'm flattered to say that two head hunters from the same company contacted me about it. That was to be in mid=Feb. Guess what? Early March before they start interviewing. They'll be in touch.
Then there's the writing job with Citicorp. That sounds like a good match, too. They even interivewed me! Of course the interview was postponed a couple days (so what else is new?). I learned that I made the cut, and was one of two chosen for a second interview. That was scheduled for today. Guess what? The headhunter told me the wrong day. It's Wednesday. Well, the delay gets me closer to the power plant opportunity. If that one doesn't get delayed...

Dear Rogers:
The tone of your current blog entry suggests that you are pursuing a change of careers with a combination of stoicism, patience, and confidence. This is the winning ticket, of course, despite the fact that the abrasive nature of the employment seeking process does wear against one's resolve.
I have every confidence that one of these leads will pan out to the mother lode in short order. Talent is eventually recognized -- if not for one thing, than for another better one.
Fondest regards,
Jack Riepe
