Yee-ha! More poetry

I haven't indulged my penchant for writing poetry to irritate my good friend Jack Riepe lately, so I thought I'd share some poetry-related morsels. I discovered a thing in Yahoo called Yahoo Answers. Some of it seems to be kids asking for help with their homework, but the range of topics is broad indeed. I occasionally provide answers in the Education and Reference/Words and Wordplay section. Somebody wanted a valentine-related rhyming couplet. Here's my reply. It got the Best Answer award.

How about a few more details. Iambic pentameter? who's it addressed to--girlfriend, boyfriend, your mom, teacher, enemy? any forbidden/required vocabulary? Do the lines have to connect?

lines that don't connect:
This thing upon my fork's a tine
When I see you, you look real fine

lines that connect:
Of all the Moms I think you're best
You're nicer far than all the rest

iambic pentameter (da-DUM five times per line)
I think a Valentine is right for you
You have my heart—and all my plumbing, too

forbidden vocabulary:
Mary had a little lamb, it fell into a well
Mary dropped some dynamite in and blew it all to little pieces about so big

from me to you:
Like Cyrano, I help you write a line or two
to woo your girl and let her think it's you

Have fun!

Okay, let's us have some fun. How about commenting and coming up with a Valentine couplet?
